Continuing Jobless Claims: Release Dates, Results & History

Continuing Jobless Claims last printed 1.78M on Thu, Aug 27, 2026 against a 1.79M consensus forecast and a 1.80M prior, exactly on consensus. The next release is Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 8:30 AM ET. Captured live by Helious the moment it printed.

Initial claims count the newly laid off; continuing claims count everyone still drawing benefits, so they measure how fast the unemployed find new work. In a low-hiring economy the two diverge: layoffs stay quiet while benefit rolls grind higher because nobody is getting rehired. That divergence is the cleanest early read on where the unemployment rate is heading.

The trend, at a glance

OFFICIAL SERIES · LAST 36 OBSERVATIONS · CLAIMS
The official published series at its current vintage — revisions included, so the newest point can differ from the number as first printed. The release-by-release history with the consensus forecast and standard-deviation surprise on every row comes through the Helious API.

How it moves Treasuries

Higher continuing claims are bullish Treasuries via the labor-slack channel. When initial claims are calm but continuing claims keep climbing, the market trades the continuing side. See it scored live on the Helious desk, or read how the standard-deviation surprise is computed.
