Nothing else reads housing demand this often. It is a weekly percent change in mortgage application volume, and the two pieces inside it say different things. The purchase index leads home sales by one to two months. The refi index works the other way round, reacting to where mortgage rates just went. After a Treasury rally this survey is the first hard evidence of whether the move reached borrowers.
